Editorial Comment

The Journal of Professional Secretaries and Office Administrators was first published in 1993. This volume which is the twenty-fifth edition is the outcome of the twenty-seventh Annual National Conference and Workshop of the Association of Professional Secretaries Staff of Nigeria (APSSON) whose theme was: Economic Recession and Organizational Survival Secretarial Personnel Perspective.

The theme is apt at this period in the sociopoliticaleconomic dynamics of Nigeria nay the world. Recently, the Nigerian economy slipped into recession with its multiplier effects hitting hard on all the sectors, industries, businesses and the populace, without exceptions. This recession stimulated unpleasant factors in the economy with negative effects on business and office environment.

No doubt, the secretarial staff are indispensable in the workplace and must brace themselves to face successfully the challenges of the economic recession. Sequel to this state of affairs, a good number of contributors have made suggestions via their various articles on requisite secretarial attributes, secretarial training and retraining, organizational change and innovation, emergent secretarial role dynamics, self management, combating corruption, workplace relationships, entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial potentiation, and youth empowerment.

This volume, no doubt, presents interesting reference, training and teaching materials to business and office educators, secretarial practitioners, administrators/managers of various organizations, policy makers, technocrats and policy implementers in high places, researchers and the general readers.
