Editorial Comment
The Journal of Professional Secretaries and Office Administrators was first published in 1993. This volume which is the twenty-fifth edition is the outcome of the twenty-seventh Annual National Conference and Workshop of the Association of Professional Secretaries Staff of Nigeria (APSSON) whose theme was: Economic Recession and Organizational Survival Secretarial Personnel Perspective.
The theme is apt at this period in the sociopoliticaleconomic dynamics of Nigeria nay the world. Recently, the Nigerian economy slipped into recession with its multiplier effects hitting hard on all the sectors, industries, businesses and the populace, without exceptions. This recession stimulated unpleasant factors in the economy with negative effects on business and office environment.
No doubt, the secretarial staff are indispensable in the workplace and must brace themselves to face successfully the challenges of the economic recession. Sequel to this state of affairs, a good number of contributors have made suggestions via their various articles on requisite secretarial attributes, secretarial training and retraining, organizational change and innovation, emergent secretarial role dynamics, self management, combating corruption, workplace relationships, entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial potentiation, and youth empowerment.
This volume, no doubt, presents interesting reference, training and teaching materials to business and office educators, secretarial practitioners, administrators/managers of various organizations, policy makers, technocrats and policy implementers in high places, researchers and the general readers.

The current volume is the twenty third, and it is the outcome of the twenty fifth Annual National Conference and Workshop of the Association of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria (APSSON) whose theme was: Secretarial Profession and the Dynamic Nigerian Labour Market. Both the labour market and professional secretaryship are experiencing unprecedented metamorphosis in Nigeria nay the world. The commissioned paper by Dr. Anthony A. Ozurumba is very thought-provoking and is a clarion call to all members of the labour force including professional secretaries to improve their performance and thereby increase productivity. The proficiency of the contemporary secretaries in the dynamic Nigerian labour market is predicated upon a good number of variables as enunciated by various contributors and these include: secretarial intrapreneurship, ICT-compliance, scholastic advancement, gender equality, further training and retraining, self-development, and stress management. These factors are suggestive of requisite strategies for effective and efficient secretarial services towards the enhancement of labour market operations This volume presents interesting reference, training and teaching materials to business and office educators, secretarial practitioners, administrators /managers of various organizations, researchers, and the general readers.
